Excess that arises out of asceticism is an attempt to augment aural and oral sensations through select food and drink. The consumption of rare foods and drugs facilitates comprehension of the performer’s ritualistic stage actions. Awareness is channelled and the senses are corrupted. Excess as contemplative debauchery escapes asceticism. |
