RAUSCH & WUNDERKAMMER

Hotel Almhof Schneider, LECH

Dinner
Rausch & Wunderkammer 1/3

The chamber of wonders is not a site but a mirror reflecting the mind of its creator, a mind whose desire is boundless and wants to conquer the world in order to live in an endless stupor of surprise.

This is how I created a wooden coffered ceiling consisting of 116 painted fragments for the Almhof Schneider restaurant. Following my sole striving for interpretation and the aesthetic and disregarding any acknowledged wisdom or philosophy, these paintings depict hallucinogenic plants. They form a pseudoscientific theatre of the world which might be reminiscent of the photos of plants by, for example, Karl Blossfeldt.
The Chamber of Drugs and Wonders in Lech is the very venue where culinary and alcoholic delights are celebrated. At such a site, common sense rests in the arms of Morpheus and phantasms are born.
